Welcome to my website called StratSound.

My name is Bill and I am an amateur player, learning all the time.
In the 60’s I listened to the Shadows and have always loved their unique sound since.
I was taught to read music at age 11 when I started playing the violin. I then progressed to playing the guitar and also electric organs.
However it took fifty odd years before I started to learn the guitar properly.
I like many genres of music and will try to post different types as time allows.
I do like listening to many performers. Kenny G is one and I have recorded a few of his.
Rod Stewart has evolved over his career and I like both older and recent songs of his.
George Benson has some amazing tunes but I can’t as yet master those!
Carlos Santana has such a distinctive style and recently I recorded and posted ‘Love is You’. Hopefully I can post more tunes from him.
Obviously Hank Marvin’s music – especially the more recent ones have such an appeal and there are enough tunes to keep me going for a long time!
There are many other artists that I listen to, some I have already recorded instro covers of.
2019
Currently my guitar is a Fender Stratocaster Special Edition. I changed the strings to D’addario NYXL 11-49 and like the feel and sound they make. I now can bend the notes much easier.
My amplifier is now a Vox Valvetronix VT120+.
The Vox is a modelling amp with 99 pre-set sounds including Vox AC15 and Vox AC30. It has twin speakers and many effects built in.
It is far more powerful than my previous Fender Mustang v2 amp.
I am still getting used to the Vox but am very impressed with the delay and reverb effects.
I have a Boss FV-500H Volume / Expression foot pedal.
Next purchase will be a Vox VFS5 foot controller enabling me to switch between eight saved sounds and turn various effects on or off.
I use the latest version of Audacity to process the end sound. After recording my playing with an HD Panasonic video camera, I edit and render it using Corel Video Studio Ultimate.
Any videos I post on YouTube will also appear here.
Over time I hope to expand this site by adding pages for various topics /discussions on playing the guitar and equipment to get.
